Can you believe that we’re onto Outlander Book 8? We started this read-through back in June 2020 as a way to get through that Droughtlander. With the pandemic just really starting out, we know that the Droughtlander was going to be long.

We’re two-and-a-half years into it and now starting the eighth book of the series.

What is Written in My Own Heart’s Blood about?

This book starts with wrapping up a few storylines from the seventh book to then be able to push plot points forward. We catch up with William after he learns the truth about Jamie and then Jamie as he learns the truth about Lord John Grey and Claire.

Of course, we need to catch up with Bree and Roger, who are now separated by time. It turns out Jemmy is still in the 1980s, but Roger thought Jemmy had been taken through the stones. Roger goes on a journey through the 1730s and other times while Bree tries to keep her children safe from the latest threat.

Meanwhile, Young Ian figures out life with Rachel, and Jenny gets a chance to see America. We get more and more people surrounding the Frasers in the past, and it’s getting to be just what they need as they look to rebuild the Big House and figure out what to do next at Fraser’s Ridge.

This book does seem long considering there are 145 chapters. However, it’s worth noting that the majority of chapters aren’t more than 30 minutes long on Audible. There is one chapter at an hour, and that’s the longest.
