Jamie resigns his commission in Claire’s blood in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 82

The title of the novel comes up in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 82. We see Jamie resign in his own heart’s blood. It’s a very dramatic chapter.

It all picks up where the previous chapter left off. Claire has been shot, and it’s going to take skilled surgeons to take her. We get some of this chapter from Claire’s perspective as she realizes that she’s in shock, but she can’t tell if she’s going into it or coming out of it. She also doesn’t really know the extent of her injuries just yet.

Jamie is understandably worried. Up to this point, he’s always thought himself to be the one to die in battle. Now he’s facing the potential loss of his wife, and he refuses to leave her side. That’s despite orders telling him to see General Lee. So what does Jamie do? Resign of course.

This chapter is sure to be used in the TV series, and I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation chapter. It foreshadows something for Jamie in the coming chapters, I think. Or maybe that’s more of plot development. I’ll come to that in the foreshadowing section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 82.
