Rachel goes into labor in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 144

As Claire thinks about Malva, Jenny comes to tell her that Rachel is in labor. Outlander Book 8, Chapter 144 is all about welcoming new life.

I do find this chapter a little confusing in Claire’s actions, to be honest. There are elements of it that seem out of character for her. This is especially the case when it comes to her actions in the garden to add to her thoughts that Malva is hopefully at peace.

It seems like Claire is a little more superstitious than she claims to be. However, the thoughts are pushed to one side as she’s needed to help deliver a baby. Rachel is in labor, and Jenny turns to Claire for help.

This chapter certainly sets up a plot point at the beginning of it, and I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section. The rest of the chapter is really about saying goodbye to the gone and welcoming in new life.

I suspect that it will be used in the TV show. In fact, there is one part of this chapter I really hope to see used in the series, and I’ll get to that in the adaptation part of the post.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 144.
