Bree finds a letter from Frank in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 42

After a stressful night, Bree and the children are back at Lallybroch in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 42. Bree needs to figure out what to do.

There is a lot to think about in this chapter. Bree needs to figure out how to keep her children safe, and it’s clear Lallybroch isn’t safe right now. So, what can she do? She needs Roger, but he is in the past.

Her actions during the chapter lead to Bree finding a letter from Frank. We get to find out a little more of what he knew about Jamie Fraser. One thing is clear: he knew that Brianna could likely travel. However, it doesn’t seem like he knew that she definitely would travel.

I don’t get that much foreshadowing in this chapter. We simply find out bits of what Frank knew, and find out that the prophecy is a concern. However, that prophecy doesn’t seem to work anymore. Bree isn’t the last of the Lovat line.

I hope to see this chapter used in the TV series. We know that Frank was writing something during Outlander Season 4 in the flashback of Bree and Frank. I want to see if what he was writing was this letter. I also want to see more of Tobias Menzies in the series. I’ll get to my thoughts on this in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 42.
