Jamie fears for Claire in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 85

Jamie sits by Claire’s side as she tries to fight death in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 85. This is going to be a long night for Jamie.

The chapter is split in two. We start off with Jamie by Claire’s side. All he wants is for her to pull through, but he can’t help think of what he will do if she dies. He thinks of what Claire said she nearly did when thinking Jamie was dead, but would he be able to do the same thing?

In the second half of the chapter, we follow Ian. Is he trying to get back to Rachel, but thoughts of telling her what he just did sink in. He fears that she will leave him because of his actions. After all, he’s made it clear that he is the opposite of her. He’s a violent man, while she’s a pacifist.

I fully expect to see the chapter used, but not in the way it’s written. This is going to be a glimpse of things, and I’ll get to that in the adaptation section.

It doesn’t really foreshadow anything for me. This chapter is more about getting Ian back to the others and seeing Jamie deal with Claire nearly dying. Again.
