Jamie needs to speed up the healing process in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 19

I love seeing some of the older ways to speed up the healing process in the past. Outlander Book 8, Chapter 19 gives us one of them when Jamie realizes that he needs to get to Philadelphia.

He’s still at the Hardman’s place, struggling with his bad back. He knows that he can’t wait for this to solve on its own. He doesn’t have much time to get to Philadelphia and then report to George Washington, so he needs Mrs. Hardman to find a way to help him.

Well, she does, and I love the way that she does it. We need to be reminded that not everyone had access to a doctor. The people of the Ridge are lucky, but we know they all have some older ways of dealing with situations. So does Mrs. Hardman.

I don’t really get a sense of foreshadowing in this chapter. It’s more of plot development, as we see how Jamie now feels about the Claire and John situation.

I would love to see this chapter used in the TV series. Is there time for it? I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section of the post.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 19.
