Claire is on the verge of a breakdown in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 118

Claire is overcome by everything she has been through in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 118. Fortunately, Jamie is there to help her through it.

It’s easy to view Claire as this strong woman who lets very little bother her. While she’s had her moments when it comes to the feared loss of Jamie, for the most part, she is able to overcome all the negative thoughts in her head. This can make her seem a little too much like a superwoman at times, and it’s come to some of the “she’s stronger than that” comments that really get to me.

So, I’m really glad that sometimes we see her have these breaks. The trauma of the past comes back when you would least expect it. And it is when she’s overwhelmed with everything. That makes a lot of sense as someone who suffers from PTSD, too.

I think this is one of those chapters that will be used in the TV series, but not quite as we see it here. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

As for foreshadowing, I don’t see that. This is focused on being overwhelmed and the need for everyone to get back home. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the foreshadowing section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 118.
