Brian has Roger’s father’s dog tags in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 43

After the search around Cameron lands comes to an end, Roger and Buck head back to Lallybroch in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 43. It leads to Roger getting something very special.

The chapter itself seems like it’s just Roger learning more events that he already knows happens. He learns that Captain Black Jack Randall has taken over at Fort William, and he sees that Brian has the desk with the hidden compartment (although Brian doesn’t want anyone to know that).

It’s the end of the chapter that leads to a lot of questions. Roger is given something very special indeed. Somehow, Brian Fraser has ended up with J.W. MacKenzie’s dog tags.

This chapter certainly helps to push the plot of Roger’s father forward. It’s very clear that this is going to come up again in the future, and I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section.

I do expect to see the chapter used in the TV series. We get to see Roger have to pretend like he doesn’t know about Black Jack Randall and get his father’s dog tags. I’ll get to my thoughts on why this chapter is needed in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 43.
