Jamie sees Claire shot in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 81

Jamie knows that in battle anything is possible. That doesn’t mean he wants to worry about Claire in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 81.

In fact, up to this point, Jamie hasn’t worried about Claire. She is treating patients who have been injured. There shouldn’t be a need to worry about her. It’s only as the battle gets closer to where the battlefield hospital is that things take a turn.

Claire is out in the open treating a patient. Jamie didn’t realize that this is where she would be. Claire doesn’t likely anticipate the battle coming closer to her. However, Jamie is there as Claire is shot in the side, and naturally, he fears the worse.

I do expect to see this chapter used in the TV series. After all, it gives us that fear that something is going to happen to Claire. I’ll get to my thoughts on this in the adaptation section.

I don’t think it foreshadows much, though. This chapter is all about the moment as the tide turns for the Patriots at the Battle of Monmouth. It’s also about catching us up on things that have happened. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the foreshadowing section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 81.
