William arrests Ian in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 21

Temper flare in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 21. Ian and Rachel are supposed to be able to enjoy some time together, but William comes in and is on the attack.

We’re certainly reminded of William’s character traits from Jamie in this chapter. This is a man who is quick to anger, is rather jealous, and doesn’t always think his actions through. We’ve seen this with Jamie in the past. It’s probably a good thing that William doesn’t realize how much he is like Jamie.

For Ian’s sake, things aren’t great. Ian is arrested by the British Army, and that could lead to 500 lashes. Of course, Rachel is worried, but help is on the way. Ian finds out that Jamie is still alive after all.

This chapter certainly foreshadows some things to come for William. It also offers some plot development for Ian and Rachel. I’ll get to my thoughts on them in the foreshadowing section.

Will this chapter be used in the TV series? I certainly expect to see it, and I’ll get to why that is in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 21.
