Jamie is stopped on his journey back to Claire in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 9

We left Jamie heading back to Claire. His journey takes a tangent in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 9.

We start off with Jamie heading back to Claire. He’s not sure how he’s going to react when he sees her. Will he beat her? This continues to prove that Jamie is a violent man. He’s promised not to beat her again, but his anger threatens to get the best of him.

However, Jamie doesn’t head straight to Claire. We also spend some time with Claire and Jenny. There is trouble in the streets, and Claire knows that Lord John Grey’s house is more at risk than Marsali and Fergus’s print shop.

This chapter certainly gives us a lot of information about what’s going on in the war. We get to see the Continental Army closing in, taking over the streets now that the British Army has gone. I love how we get to know what it would have been like living during this time with everything happening around them.

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in this chapter, and I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section. Will it be used in the TV series? I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 9.
