Bree has an unlikely rescuer in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 41

Ernie takes Jem and Mandy back to Lallybroch in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 41. It leads to a shootout at the house.

I really don’t like Ernie in this chapter. He knows that Rob Cameron is dangerous, and he knows that Rob Cameron wants Jem. So, instead of protecting everyone at his house, he decides to put his wife before a couple of children—a wife who would probably be extremely angry with him for doing this if she knew.

Fortunately for Bree, there is someone who turns up when there’s an attack on her family. Mr. Menzies makes it clear that he isn’t on Rob Cameron’s side in all this.

I’ll admit that I’m always relieved when I get to this chapter of a read-through of this book. It’s so slow leading up to this with the back-and-forth between Bree and Roger. I just want to get to the drama of the story, and this chapter is it.

There is some foreshadowing toward the end, and I’ll get to that in the foreshadowing section. This is a chapter I definitely see being used in the TV series, and I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 41.
