Claire takes a trip to the Beardsley Trading Post in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 139

Sometimes, it feels like chapters are included that aren’t really that necessary. For me, Outlander Book 8, Chapter 139 is one of them.

We see Claire, Jenny, Young Ian, and others head to the Beardsley Trading Post. I guess the lack of Jamie makes it clear that being back at the Ridge makes everyone feel safer. Only Ian is there to protect everyone, but Jamie doesn’t seem to feel like there’s a problem with that.

Very little happens, except for Claire. She sees the man who raped her during her abduction. Well, that’s who she thinks she sees despite believing that Jamie and others killed them all. This is a part that clearly sets up some plot development to finish off the book, but I just don’t think it necessary. I’ll explain more in the foreshadowing section.

Will it be used in the TV series? I actually think this whole chapter will end up being skipped over. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the adaptation section.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 139.
