Roger meets Black Jack Randall in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 45

Roger and Buck head to Fort William in Outlander Book 8, Chapter 45. The atmosphere has certainly changed, and Buck even refuses to go in.

This is a great question to get a sense of how one man can change everything. Both Buck and Roger can feel how things have changed at Fort William since Captain Jonathan Randall has taken over. It’s clear that Black Jack Randall isn’t the charming man that he pretends to be.

Roger knows far too much about this man, but he realizes that he has an opportunity to pray for the man’s soul. Why would he care about Randall’s soul after everything that’s happened. I do think this says a lot about Roger’s character.

The chapter itself doesn’t foreshadow too much. It’s about the dog tags, which has now become of a a plot point. It’s clear that this will lead to something more.

Will it be used in the TV series? I hope so, but there are no signs that Tobias Menzies is coming back to Outlander. I guess that is something we’ll have to wait and see about.

Let’s dive into Written in My Own Heart’s Blood Chapter 45.
