Outlander at NYCC 2019: Could we get a screening of the first episode?
Outlander is heading to NYCC 2019 to promote Season 5. Is it possible that we’ll get a screening of the first episode? Here’s why I don’t think so.
New York Comic-Con 2019 has become the best it could be. Outlander is taking to the stage once more, and this time it’s to promote Season 5. The big question many people have is whether we could get a screening of the first episode.
I’ll admit that I don’t think it’s likely. Fans at NYCC 2018 did get to see a screening of the Season 4 premiere, but there were a lot of factors that supported the idea that would happen in the first place. It was only a month before the official premiere of the episode and there had been more time to get ready for this screening.

Filming for Season 5 only started in April. The show isn’t going to air until sometime in early 2020, and my guess is late February or early March at the very earliest. This is four to five months away from NYCC 2019. It’s unlikely that STARZ would release a full episode this early.
The premiere may not even be finished in the post-production stage at this point. Most production companies will film the episodes and then look at cutting, editing, and other needs. The music needs to be composed, recorded, and added into the episodes. Graphics need to be added to the green screens. There’s a lot of work from start to finish and October may not be enough time to get Episode 1 finished
One thing that will tell us whether a screening is possible is the length of the panel. Last year’s panel was a give away that a screening would happen. It was 90 minutes long and most Q&As take up 30 minutes. Since Outlander episodes are about an hour long, a screening made sense.
If the panel is less then 90 minutes, I wouldn’t expect a screening of the full episode. However, there may be some exclusive clips and a trailer for the season.
