Secrets were out in Outlander Season 4, Episode 10 and that meant Brianna learned Roger had come back for her. Jamie handled the situation extremely badly, showing he’s human but also meaning he deserved Brianna’s anger.

There was one major thing I hated in Outlander Season 4, Episode 10. Jamie’s words to Brianna in the cabin were completely out of order. I’m not angry at the writers at all. In fact, I can see how this whole storyline developed but that doesn’t mean I have to like Jamie for his words and actions.

When he beat Roger, I understood it. I could accept it and I didn’t blame him. Yet, as the secrets came out, he did himself no favors and didn’t deserve anyone standing up for him (so I’m glad that Claire protected their daughter instead of trying to diffuse the situation). One thing “The Deep Heart’s Core” did was show us that everyone is human

Which moment am I talking about? It was his quick conclusion that Brianna had lied about the rape. No, not the moment in the forest. You could see a twinkle in his eye that he had planned something out there. This was all about the moment in the cabin.

As Brianna explained who Roger was, Jamie didn’t give her a chance to finish her story. He assumed that she had sex, got pregnant, and regretted it, leading to her crying rape.

How could a man who had just days before sat with her and helped her realize that she couldn’t have fought her rapist off even consider that she’d made this up? How could a man who had talked her through his own time and killing his rapist even consider that she’d lied?

Part of it didn’t make sense but at the same time it did. He was deflecting his own shock and anger at the situation, as secrets came out. Once he realized that Bonnet was the rapist, he very quickly shut down. You could see his anger that he’d allowed all this to happen. After all, had he not allowed Bonnet to go free none of this would have ever happened.

But because I can see why he jumped to conclusions and accused Brianna of lying doesn’t mean I have to like it. And it was in this moment that he more than deserved all of Brianna’s anger towards him. Had he just calmly explained what he thought and listened to Brianna, maybe she’d have calmed down but he made the whole situation worse.

I know this is a moment that divides Sassenachs. Some come to Jamie’s defense, others to Brianna. Some are just angrier at Claire for not siding with Jamie (I passionately don’t agree as a mother of two young girls). It’s always going to divide the fandom depending on age, whether you’ve read the books and know what’s to come, or already have a connection with the storyline in some other way.

Next. Why Jamie would be dead had Claire not gone through the stones. dark
