There are many questions fans who haven’t read the books for whatever reason have about Outlander Season 4. One of those is whether Jenny and Ian will return. Well, will they?

Jenny and Ian aren’t in a lot of episodes, but they do play prominent roles. They have both helped shape Jamie into the man he is today and helped to keep him safe when necessary. Both literally put their lives on the line for Jamie and have become extremely close to Claire in the process. With the release of the Outlander Season 4 promo, both were missing. Does that mean they’re not going to be in the season?

As you would expect from the promo, there are spoilers from the book. I’m containing the spoilers just to “Drums of Autumn.”

Brianna journeys to the past

More from Spoilers

Something that hasn’t been kept quiet is Brianna heading to the past. The best place for her to start is in Scotlander, at Lallybroch. It shouldn’t be surprising to hear that both Jenny and Ian show up at this point in the story.

While Lallybroch is technically their son’s Young Jamie, both remain there at the time. Ian Murray even suggests that Lallybroch is rightfully Brianna’s, despite Jamie signing the deed for his nephew to take it. Remember, Jamie didn’t want it to go to the Crown, which it would have if it was still in Jamie’s possession as he was a traitor.

Brianna doesn’t want Lallybroch, though. She can’t tell them that she’s from the future, but she does make it clear that she’s here for one reason and one reason only: to find her parents.

Their reactions to Brianna

While shocked, both are happy that Jamie has a daughter. This wasn’t something either thought possible considering everything that had happened. Of course, in Outlander Season 3, Claire doesn’t tell Jenny about Brianna. When Jenny asks if Claire had children, Claire tells her “not with [her husband in America/Frank].” That wasn’t a lie, but she did omit that she had Brianna, Jamie’s daughter, believing that Jenny would never meet Brianna so it wouldn’t matter.

Brianna, fortunately, has the pearl necklace that Jamie gave Claire on their wedding night. This was the necklace that belonged to Ellen Fraser, so Jenny recognizes it. It immediately tells Jenny that this is definitely her niece.

After that, Brianna is invited to stay at Lallybroch by both. We should get to see a little bit between Jenny, Ian, and Brianna in Outlander Season 4, although it likely won’t be a lot due to time constraints.
