Expect more repurposing of older costumes in Outlander Season 4. Peeks of Jamie’s grand costume show hints of things that have come before.

Town and Country magazine has shown snippets of photos from Outlander Season 4 filming. Many of the photos are those from the filming in Glasgow last month, but there’s an important one that stands out: Jamie and his lavish costume.

It’s not often that Jamie gets to wear beautiful clothes. In fact, over the years the clothes have been for very special reasons. In France, we saw him dress the part of a wine merchant while infiltrating the Jacobite cause. Then in Jamaica, he dressed ready for Lord John Grey’s ball so he could find out where Young Ian was being kept. Now fans will want to know why Jamie is dressing up for what looks like a ball in Outlander Season 4.

However, the focus isn’t on the why right now. I’m taking a look at the item of clothing you can see in a particular photo. If it looks familiar to you, then that’s because it is. The item in question was used in the cover shoot for EW’s Outlander feature at the tail end of last year. Jamie was wearing the same waistcoat, with Claire wearing that prominent yellow dress from Paris. This was a costume he would wear at the ball.

This isn’t the first time a costume has been repurposed or reused. As mentioned, Claire’s yellow dress in Jamaica was from Paris. During the Jamaica ball, both Marsali and Fergus wore items that belonged to Claire and Jamie. Doing this sticks to the realities of history, when items had to be worn numerous times, even beautiful dresses and waistcoats.
