We’ve not had an Outlander Season 4 teaser since January, but has the handling of promo for the next season been just right? Do we need more?

In January, Starz ran an Outlander Season 3 marathon one Sunday and offered the second of (so far) two Outlander teasers straight after it. The teaser was clearly taken from some point early on in the season and helped to create buzz around the show again. There hasn’t been one since (but we do hope another is coming up next week) yet there’s still plenty of buzz around the series.

Has Starz handled the teasers just right this year? Do we need more than already on offer?

What’s the point in Outlander teasers?

In 2017, the first teaser for Season 3 didn’t drop until April 17, the day after the anniversary of the Battle of Culloden. This was released on the Starz YouTube channel, so everyone had the chance of watching it. The idea was to create buzz around the upcoming season, encouraging people to share with their friends and spread the word of the time-traveling love story.

The Outlander Season 4 teasers have been to give fans more of a snippet into the upcoming season. That 20-second tease at the end of the Season 3 finale created the buzz before the episode, encouraging people to tune into the episode live on Starz at 8pm that Sunday night.

In January, the tease helped to encourage as many people as possible to remain subscribed to Starz straight after the end of the series. Running a marathon encourages those who would usually drop their package to remain engaged and even possibly check out a few other Starz shows.

Of course, the teaser also helped to create buzz around the series. With the marathon before it, there was a chance new people would tune in to see what the series was all about. After all, Season 3 was relatively self-contained, when you think of the events of the previous two seasons.

Is the buzz waining?

Many Outlander fans continue to share how they’re dropping Starz without the series. Starz may want to think of releasing more Outlander Season 4 teasers on its channel (and not just its YouTube channel) to encourage people to remain subscribed.

At the same time, the buzz around the show is starting to wain. We get little snippets from the producers on Twitter and there are spoiler photos released, but there’s been very little news release. The last casting news was for two smaller parts in the series. We have no idea who will play some of the bigger roles, except for Stephen Bonnet, Aunt Jocasta, and Ulysses.

This would be the perfect timing for another tease. It’s a few months since the last one, the Season 3 DVD has been released in North America, and the anniversary of the first Season 3 teaser is coming up. Oh, and we can’t forget that the anniversary of the Battle of Culloden is coming up. While Season 4 may have nothing to do with it, the battle was a major plot point for the first three seasons (and books).
