Outlander Season 5: When will the big wedding happen?
There’s a wedding on the cards. We all knew that was happening in Outlander Season 5, right? The question is when that will happen.
Outlander Season 5 will bring wedding bells. One of the latest images released from show confirms that there’s a big wedding, but when will that wedding be? Diana Gabaldon may have given something away.
Entertainment Weekly shared the images of the season, promoting one of a wedding with Claire and Jamie watching with matching proud looks. It shouldn’t be that surprising to find out that Brianna and Roger are getting married. They are in love, they’re already handfasted (although that will have run out now), and they have a child together—Roger views Jemmy as his son and we know he is. Considering they’re in the 18th century, they need to get married.

But the big question is when this wedding will take place. That’s not something Entertainment Weekly shared, but Diana Gabaldon has given a hint. In a Facebook post to share her love for Claire’s surgery, she also shared that the images were a quick peek at the Season 5 premiere. That suggests the wedding is going to take place in the very first episode of the season.
This will come as a shock for some. After all, the leadup to the wedding takes up a good chunk of “The Fiery Cross.” There are multiple storylines that happen in the leadup to the wedding while the gathering takes place. Does that mean that those storylines aren’t going to happen or are storylines just going to get moved around?
We knew that something had to be done differently. Spending a quarter of the book on one day is one thing. Spending a quarter of the season on one day is entirely different and wouldn’t work so well for TV. There are just too many other big storylines that would get cut out if three episodes were spent on the wedding.
There is a chance that the wedding won’t be a major focus and more of the end result after a couple of dramatic moments throughout the first episode. I can imagine something like Fergus and Marsali’s wedding with how their wedding was just a way to end the episode.
What do you think about the chances of the wedding being in the first episode of the season? What would you like to see kept in from the first part of the book? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
Outlander Season 5 premieres on Feb. 16 on STARZ.
