Outlander has stuck to one book per season so far, but things could change for Season 5. Just what does it mean for The Fiery Cross?

Ron D. Moore has said that Outlander Season 5 is going to happen. He and his team are already talking about the future of the series and how they’ll handle the next novel adaptations. This is a constant discussion to determine whether to continue the one book per season or to start switching things around.

There is a chance we could see half a book per season or two books per season. This is certainly the case with “The Fiery Cross.” Many fans of the novels comment how slow-paced the fifth book is. Without spoilers, there is a focus on life on Fraser’s Ridge, which can be a little boring for some. To keep it entertaining for the show, some of the chapters would need to be condensed and switched around.

It could mean Outlander Season 5 covers “The Fiery Cross” and “A Breath of Snow and Ashes,” which is the sixth book of the series. Even just half of the sixth book would allow for some extra excitement for the fifth season.

Switching the way the showrunners adapted the books was a conversation for Outlander Season 3. There was a lot of material to fit into one season, but the showrunners decided to run with the whole book for the season. Splitting it in half would mean a full season of Claire and Jamie apart and fans definitely wouldn’t want that. All fans wanted was to skip through the first six episodes to get to the print shop scene!

Season 4 is following “Drums of Autumn.” Moore previous admitted that there would be some timelines changed, but the bones of the story were included. Book fans would recognize the scenes, just not the extact order of them.
