Outlander Season 5 will happen, showrunner says

Outlander EP Ron D. Moore has insisted that a fifth season is going to happen, even though Starz is yet to confirm.

Outlander Season 5 is still being negotiated officially, but unofficially it is going to happen. Before their For Your Consideration panel for the Emmys at the weekend, Ron D. Moore made it very clear Sassenachs everywhere would be happy with the future. Now Starz just has to make the official confirmation.

Why haven’t we heard yet? Well, Sony and Starz are still negotiating a deal. Moore just says that he’s planning for a fifth season and he has no doubt that it will happen.

Honestly, the renewal has never been in question. Moore said that he was confident on a fifth season as Outlander Season 3 wrapped. The network and production company entered into early talks to help prevent the long Droughtlander.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht later confirmed that Outlander was a prized show for the network. It’s the second most-watched show among women on a cable network, behind Game of Thrones. The network knows it has a loyal fanbase and this is something to keep on their network for their subscriptions. When Altice dropped the Starz channels, Outlander fans gathered in force to encourage negotiations to come to an end very soon.

When Outlander Season 5 gets the go-ahead, expect Moore’s hand in the series to remain about the same. He’s handed over the day-to-day running of the series to Matt B. Roberts and Toni Graphia and now looks over the scripts, makes some suggested edits, and gets involved in the editing process.
