Outlander Season 4, Episode 1 throwback ratings: A new world
Outlander Season 4 premiered on this day in history. It’s time to look back at the ratings. How did they fare against previous seasons?
On this day in history, Outlander Season 4 premiered on STARZ. Fans would get the chance to see the journey head to the New World, a chance for Claire and Jamie to start a new life. Like with other throwback posts this year, I’m looking back at the Live + Same Day ratings.
STARZ doesn’t pay too much attention to the ratings. After all, the money comes from the subscribers to the app, whether directly or via an add-on through Amazon Prime, Hulu, or more. Money for the show also comes through DVD and Blu-ray releases more than the channels. However, the live ratings give us an idea of what the viewership is like through the app.

Remember that the first season’s premiere only had 0.721 million viewers live but around 18 million watched through the app. It goes to show that there are many people not being accounted for. Yet, the live ratings give us some sort of idea because STARZ doesn’t release all the official information.
The Outlander Season 4 premiere saw 1.082 million people tune in, with a demo (18-49) demo rating of 0.21, according to TV Series Finale. This was down from the Season 3 premiere (and the finale). It was also down from the Season 2 premiere (although up from the finale). However, it was up from the Season 1 premiere.
Some of the ratings drop may have been due to Droughtlander. Some viewers wouldn’t have known that the series was back, but it could have also been due to more people tuning in through the STARZ app. After all, the STARZ app made it possible for Sassenachs to watch at midnight or throughout the Sunday instead of waiting for 8 p.m.
It was never anything to worry about, though. The show had already been renewed for Seasons 5 and 6. Now we’re focused on whether the show will be renewed for Season 7, but I don’t expect us to hear anything about that until closer to the end of Season 5 airing.
