When could we hear talks about Outlander Season 7?

Outlander Season 5 is currently towards the end of filming. Is this a good time to talk about the renewal for Season 7? When could talks start?

While filming for Season 5 may still be happening, we can’t help but wonder about the future of the series. We know that Season 6 is happening, but what about Outlander Season 7? Is now a good time for STARZ and the show producers to start talking about the renewal?

Of course, some preliminary talks could already be happening. With a change of leadership at STARZ, there will certainly be some planning for the future of all shows. The network has also shown signs of wanting to keep the romantic time-traveling saga on the air, especially since it plays to the network’s “premium female audience.”

However, right now will be too early to lock in details. The fifth season will likely need to premiere first and at least a few episodes air. This will give the network an idea of the viewing figures. While we get the live ratings released, we don’t get to see what the app subscriber views are like, but this is something STARZ will want to see.

If STARZ wants to avoid a long Droughtlander again, talks will need to begin soon. One of the issues for the Season 5 and 6 renewal was that it came a little too late for the pre-production work to be finished for filming to take place off the back of the fourth season. The actors got a longer break between filming Seasons 4 and 5, allowing them to take on a few other projects.

This could happen again if STARZ and the showrunners don’t discuss a Season 7 renewal soon. Discussions will need to happen while Season 5 is airing. This allows something to be finalized while Season 6 is filming instead of waiting to see the viewing ratings during that season.

What we may see is that STARZ only opts for a one-season renewal moving forward, which is what it did when renewing Season 2. This will allow an earlier decision just in case the sixth season doesn’t perform as well as hoped.
