Outlander’s Droughtlander is reminiscent of Season 2 to 3
There are many new fans to the series. However, the current Droughtlander will remind older fans of that between Outlander Seasons 2 and 3.
When did you join the Outlander fandom? If you were like me, you found the show because it was on Netflix. Whether it was Netflix Canada, Australia, or even more recently in the U.S., the show landing on this streaming service has brought in many fans.
And because of this, you won’t be used to this long Droughtlander. After all, you wouldn’t have been through it before. You’ve had the chance to binge-watch episodes and suddenly been thrown into a long break. However, those who have been with the show from the beginning will remember this long break once before.

Between Outlander Seasons 2 and 3, there was a long break. In fact, it was about the same amount of time as what we’re expecting between Seasons 4 and 5. And it’s all to do with filming and the timing of the renewal.
The second season of the series aired its finale on Jul. 9, 2016. It wasn’t until Sept. 10, 2017 that the third season premiered. That’s 14 months between the two seasons.
Season 4’s finale aired on Jan. 27, 2019. There’s a high chance that we won’t get the fifth season until the end of February 2020 at the very earliest. That’s a 13-month break between the seasons.
What can you do with this information? Well, for one, let’s work with that it has happened before. There’s nothing to worry about when it comes to the future of the series right now. It was unfortunate that the Season 5 renewal was later than we hoped for, but the break isn’t a concern since it’s happened like this before.
Filming takes at least nine months to complete, but there’s pre- and post-production either side of that. STARZ just didn’t make a decision soon enough and now scheduling of other shows has got in the way. That’s all this break is about.
Now that we have an idea of how long is left, it’s time to look at what to do during Droughtlander. This is a great time to rewatch from the beginning. You can limit yourself to once a week if you want to use up plenty of time. You can also delve into the books (or reread if you’ve been a fan for some time).
I also recommend watching other shows but try not to compare them to Outlander, remembering that nothing is trying to be our series so there are going to be major differences. Other shows will give you new worlds to delve into. You may find some that air in our off-season, which helps to give you something to watch throughout the year.
