Outlander Season 5 update: Sam Heughan back in Scotland

If you’re eagerly anticipating the Outlander Season 5 filming then you’ll be happy to hear we’re getting much closer. Sam Heughan is now back in Scotland, which means both our leads from the beginning are back.

Last week, Caitriona Balfe shared a video of being back on set. Now Outlander Season 5 is one step closer to filming, as Sam Heughan is back in Scotland, which he shared in one of his recent Instagram Stories. Having both the leads from the beginning of the series back in the same place and ready for filming has been the integral step.

This is certainly been long awaited for. When Balfe and Cesar Domboy talked last year, they suggested that filming would start in February. Well, February has been and gone, and a potential Outlander casting call suggested that filming had actually been pushed to April.

We have no idea whether it has been pushed, but it seems like it. Had Balfe known April was the starting month, she would have said eight or nine months instead of “seven months.” It’s not clear why filming has been pushed, but there have been suggestions about the weather, giving the actors more time off, and simply that it was always supposed to be in April!

Either way, it’s good to see that the two original leads are in the country. Some of the other cast members have been gathering in Scotland, too, close to the filming studio for the series. It looks like we’re getting ready for the table reads to begin at the very least.

Once filming gets underway, we may get a few filming spoilers. We’ll also have a better idea as to when filming could finish and when the show will be back on air.
