Why did Outlander fans want Brianna to be with Lord John Grey?

During Outlander Season 4, many fans wanted to see Brianna end up with Lord John Grey, despite his sexuality and her wish to get Roger back. Why did fans want this relationship to work out?

When Lord John Grey and Brianna met, a connection was made in Outlander Season 4. Despite his sexuality and her love for Roger, fans of the series immediately took to this unconventional couple and wanted to see things work out. But just why was that?

After all, it was always clear that Brianna’s interest was in Roger. She wanted him to come back and wanted to be with him. Despite both their fiery personalities and stubbornness, she knew that she wanted to have the chance to make things work with him. And it was clear that Lord John Grey felt no sexual attraction to Jamie Fraser’s daughter.

Why would fans want her to be with a man who wouldn’t be able to fully satisfy her — something that Lord John Grey knew? Why wouldn’t they want her to be with Roger?

It all comes down to the lack of chemistry between Brianna and Roger in Outlander Season 4. This is all about the lack of development for the two as a couple. Sure, we got plenty of character development for them separately, but there just wasn’t enough time to develop them as a couple in the way that Claire and Jamie were developed in the earlier seasons.

Part of this is due to time, but it is also due to the way their scenes were set up. Every time they were together, their scenes ended with a fight. During the Scottish festival, they left things on bad terms despite some excellent moments leading up to the big fight. While I loved the fact that a handful of moments from “Drums of Autumn” were combined together to condense their story, I still missed the lack of connection between the two later in the series.

There’s something to be said for a couple’s development if fans want to see one of the characters with someone else. This is something Outlander Season 5 needs to rectify, and I’ve mentioned that before.

The good news is that Brianna and Lord John Grey will still have moments together. Their bond they gained during Season 4 isn’t going anywhere and it’s going to be exciting to see the type of friendship they can have moving forward.
