Claire did nothing wrong during the argument in Outlander
The fight at Fraser’s Ridge certainly divided the Outlander fandom. Claire has come under fire for her actions, but I simply don’t blame her for protecting her daughter.
In Outlander Season 4, Episode 10, the big fight happened. Secrets came out and that naturally led to arguments and sides being chosen. Claire stood by her daughter and I honestly don’t blame her. As a mother, I’d do the same.
Claire’s actions have certainly divided the fandom. In fact, the whole argument has divided Sassenachs. I can see each individual argument and don’t really blame anyone. The only thing I didn’t like was Jamie jumping to conclusions and accusing his daughter of lying.

In the end, Claire hugged her daughter and sided with her. She already knew the truth. I didn’t agree with Claire keeping the information about Bonnet from Jamie but it happened. There’s nothing we can do about that and she didn’t think that Jamie would end up beating up the wrong man. Everyone thought Roger had left.
Brianna was the one who needed someone in the moment of the argument. Jamie was a grown man and could look out for himself — plus, he accused their daughter of lying before listening to the whole story. Brianna is completely out of her time and place and has been through a horrific attack.
Claire will naturally want to protect her daughter. Any mother would. Even though I love my husband dearly, I’d protect my daughters if something like that happened.
While I know people think Claire and Jamie have lost their spark, I don’t see that. I just see them as maturing. Relationships change as we get older. And just because we don’t outwardly show affection all the time doesn’t mean that it isn’t there. Plus, that cabin is starting to get a little crowded!
Claire siding with Brianna — and I wouldn’t even say it was siding and more like comforting her daughter — wasn’t a snub at Jamie. It was her being a mother and there’s nothing wrong with that.
