Will Outlander cancel New York Comic-Con 2018?

With the cancellations at the Creation Ent Outlander conventions, there are worries the stars will cancel their appearance at New York Comic-Con 2018. Will that be the case?

Outlander conventions have had numerous guests cancel. Las Vegas con-goers didn’t get to meet Sam Heughan, and in New Jersey, Sam, Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies, and Steven Cree canceled. This has led to questions about New York Comic-Con 2018. Will they still make it there.

It’s understandable that people are worried. While New York’s Comic-Con isn’t as expensive as Creation Ent ones, people spend a lot on travel and hotels. Then there’s the hype that has been made about Sam and Caitriona attending. This is the first time the stars have attending this specific event.

While it’s certainly possible that the stars will need to cancel, it’s unlikely. New York Comic-Con 2018 isn’t like a Creation Ent con. This isn’t just for the fans. NYCC is a major event for promoting the show. Think of it like a slightly smaller scaled version of San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

For both Sam and Caitriona to cancel, something big would have had to happen. One would have to be ill or it would need to be something that couldn’t be helped at all. This isn’t a convention for them just to meet their fans, but a convention to promote Outlander Season 4. It will have been organized with Starz and Sony, not just the event and the actors’ reps.

Remember that Sam had to miss Las Vegas Outlander con for promotion of his movie The Spy Who Dumped Me. NYCC 2018 is promotion like that. It will be a high priority that only specific events or reasons will allow him to miss. Chances are filming for Bloodshot and the Ford vs. Ferrari movie (the stars’ current projects) will be finished by October.

Starz also dropped the following to confirm the stars and EPs will attend.

As I say, I can’t say what will definitely happen. I can’t read the future and I don’t have a set of standing stones to go through to find out. However, NYCC 2018 isn’t just another convention like Creation Ent. This is a major promotional event for Outlander Season 4.
