Happy birthday, Romann Berrux: A spotlight on Young Fergus
Happy birthday, Romann Berrux! It’s hard to believe our adorable Young Fergus turns 17 today!
Romann Berrux is 17 today. That’s hard to believe considering we met him a few years ago on Outlander as the orphan in the streets of Paris. Okay, we met Young Fergus, and he instantly stole our hearts.
Young Fergus quickly became the adopted son of Claire and Jamie Fraser. However, it took until Fergus’ wedding day for Jamie to officially make Fergus part of the family. This is despite one particular scene making it clear that Fergus was his boy; that he loved him just like any other child he had.

We only got to see Romann as Fergus for a season overall when you consider the Outlander Season 2 and Outlander Season 3 episodes, but he certainly made a mark. He was funny and cute, showing the 18th-century expectations immediately. He hated helping Claire because it was “a woman’s work” and was aghast at the strictness of Murtagh when they were left alone.
However, the way Jamie, Claire, Murtagh, and the Murrays raised him, he came a handsome, kind, and caring young man. He really is a Fraser through-and-through.
It’s clear that it was Jamie and Claire’s influence that made Fergus should a sweet and kind man. Young Fergus showed those traits. When Claire had suffered the loss of Faith, Young Fergus didn’t trouble her with his nightmares or tell her the truth of what happened in the brothel with Black Jack Randall. He looked after her, believing her more important than him.
In a way, it’s sad for Fergus, but it’s also commendable. When he was able to tell her the truth, he didn’t hold back and she became a support for him; she was his mother in that moment and it was beautiful.

It turns out that that particular scene with Black Jack was filmed on this day a few years ago. Yes, Romann filmed that fateful scene on his birthday!
