With Caitriona Balfe stepping away from the Starfury Highlanders 3 UK con, the hosts got new guests added to the lineup. Here are the latest additions and all you need to know about them.
It’s certainly disappointing when guests have to cancel their convention appearances. While con appearances may be booked first, there’s always a clause that means promo work or filming will override those dates. That’s what happened for Caitriona Balfe and Starfury Highlanders 3, the Birmingham Outlander con.
As a quick recap, Balfe has had to cancel her appearance at the August con to film her upcoming project, the Ford vs. Ferrari movie. That means Starfury has added new guests to the con. While they won’t replace Balfe, they will add extra entertainment for the fans.
We’d already shared our hopes of guests and Starfury got in touch that one of our choices had agreed to do the con. Here are the three that were announced on Friday the 13th. It looks like the date is lucky for some!
Nell Hudson: Laoghaire MacKenzie
Let’s start with one of Claire and Jamie’s requests. We’d hoped to see Nell Hudson, especially with Lauren Lyle and Sophie Skelton at the con. How great will it be to see all three ladies on the stage together? What about a mother-daughter photo op?

Starfury doesn’t say if Nell will only be around for select days yet. The website is still to be updated. It’s possible that some dates are still to be confirmed, as Tobias Menzies is still yet to confirm his appearance.
Nell doesn’t need any introduction when it comes to the Outlander fandom. She is Laoghaire–also affectionately known as LegHair. She’s one of a handful of guest stars to appear in every single season of the series so far (including the upcoming fourth season).
Scott Kyle: Ross
Scott Kyle is one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet. He’s routinely on Twitter and Facebook and is even a member of some of the Facebook groups. If you chat to him, most of the time (time allowing, of course) he will send you a reply.
He’s known as Ross to Sassenachs around the world, appearing in the second season of the series. He and Kinkade were similar to Angus and Rupert. In fact, Ross and Rupert found themselves connecting to each other after they both loss their other halves at the Battle of Prestonpans.
Scott attends a lot of events around the world, and it’s always fun to see him at conventions.
Andrew Gower: Bonnie Prince Charlie
The third is Andrew Gower, who marks his second time attending a nation’s big con. Fans are already excited to see him, as long as he doesn’t say “Mark Me” of course!
And that’s really all the introduction you need for one of the biggest guest stars of Outlander Season 2. Yes, he was Bonnie Prince Charlie, who sort of led the Jacobites into a failed war–more liked pushed his generals into leading them into a doomed war–and then retreated as quickly as he could. Jamie did tell BPC to get out of dodge in the Outlander Season 3 premiere. It looks like history was never going to be changed!
You’re in for a treat with the new guests added to Starfury Highlanders 3 convention. Of course, there’s still time to get some more. We have a few more suggestions! But for now, we’re just waiting for the schedule for the weekend.
