Caitriona Balfe drops out of Highlanders 3 Outlander convention
UK fans attending the Highlanders 3 Outlander convention got the sad news that Caitriona Balfe has had to cancel her appearance. Why is she canceling now?
Starfury Conventions shared the sad news that the UK Outlander convention, Highlanders 3, will be one guest short. Caitriona Balfe had to cancel her performance due to schedule clashes. It’s not that she doesn’t want to meet her fans, but a job she’s taken on has a clash in schedule.
It’s linked to her new movie role she’s landed. Balfe will be in the Ford vs. Ferrari movie and the schedule for filming has now been set for August. Unfortunately, the schedule couldn’t be changed, so she’s had to let the convention go. It’s understandable–acting work will always come before convention appearances. This is why Sam Heughan canceled his appearance at the Las Vegas Creation Ent convention, which is scheduled for later this month.
There will still be a number of exciting guests at the convention. Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, Lauren Lyle, and Tobias Menzies are among the guests still scheduled to appear.
As she's just been cast in a film, & the shooting schedule conflicts with the dates, sadly @caitrionambalfe will now no longer be able to join us at Highlanders 3 next month.

It’s certainly going to be disappointing for those who already have tickets. Starfury, like other convention organizations, don’t give refunds when a guest drops out. If they did that, they wouldn’t be able to run the conventions at all. Despite the convention being booked first, an actor’s or actresses’ work always has to come first. Fans were excited when Balfe was cast in her first movie since Money Monster and this is one of the downsides to that casting.
Stafury is working on replacement guests. Yes, like Creation Ent, this is plural, so there’s hope that there are many more to come. While they won’t quite be as good as Claire, they will still be exciting.
Those planning on going to the New Jersey convention or Wizard World Chicago may be worried. Nothing has been mentioned about other convention appearances in August yet.
