Yesterday marked five years since Sam Heughan was cast as Jamie Fraser on Outlander. This is the perfect chance to put a spotlight on his transformation over the years for #TransformationTuesday.

Did you know that five years ago yesterday Sam Heughan joined the cast of Outlander. He was the first to be cast on the series as Jamie Fraser; the character that producers believed would be the hardest to cast. Of course, many book fans probably thought the same. Yet, the casting staff got it right on the mark with Heughan and we couldn’t be happier.

To celebrate the casting decision, it’s time to look back over the years; take a look at the transformation Heughan has taken. It certainly wasn’t Heughan’s first role, but it has been the one that’s put him in the limelight.

The dyed red hair

More from Sam Heughan

One of the biggest transformations has certainly been the red hair. When Sam Heughan first took on the role of Jamie, he dyed his hair red. After all, his hair is naturally blonde, so something had to happen to turn him into Red Jamie.

Over time that stopped. For whatever reason–and no judgment here at all–Heughan chose to stop dying his hair. Instead, he started wearing a wig. We can tell this from his off-screen appearances. He keeps his hair blonde and short, which admittedly possibly works out better for other movie roles.

This brings us onto the next topic; Sam Heughan and his movies.

Bigger movie roles

Since landing Jamie Fraser, Heughan has become a bigger name. Slowly, he’s gained more roles, especially when it comes to movies. His upcoming movie The Spy Who Dumped Me will be released next month and he will start filming Bloodshot with Vin Diesel later this month.

The success of Outlander has certainly helped Sam in his job. But that hasn’t taken him away from the things he loves the most.

Continues to be charitable

Sam Heughan has one of the biggest hearts you will ever find. In fact, he’s not alone, as his co-star Caitriona Balfe also has a huge heart. While this is #TransformationTuesday, it’s important to note where he hasn’t changed; and that’s in his charitable actions.

He has set up My Peak Challenge, which raises money for charity while encouraging people to be better versions of themselves. In fact, in a way he has grown in this role; he has transformed. This year, he set his own Peak Challenge, running two marathons in two months.
