What does Outlander Season 4 filming halfway point mean for the premiere?
Outlander Season 4 has reached its halfway point. Does this mean a premiere date is in sight or is the team behind schedule?
There are still plenty of eyes on the premiere date for Outlander Season 4. The benefit of Starz renewing two seasons in one go was to avoid the extra long Droughtlander. Starz and Sony’s idea was that the premiere of Season 4 could hit around the same date as the premiere for Season 3, which is the way the majority of other shows work.
Maril Davis tweeted that the filming for the season had reached the halfway point. This is good news for the premiere, as it looks like the series is on schedule. Up to this point, filming has taken about five months, but that includes the Christmas break. So really, filming has been going on for about four months.
If they’re at the halfway point, that should mean that it will be another four months of filming. That takes them to June, which was the expected time they would wrap considering Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are booked for numerous conventions from July. It would be too difficult to do a little filming in between each of the convention dates, although would be possible if just a couple of scenes need redoing.

The Christmas break gave the writers time to get ahead of the scripts. This should mean there’s no need for another break between now and June. From June, the editors can get to work putting the episodes together (some of this will likely be worked on now), so Outlander Season 4 should be ready for September 2018.
Season 4 news has come out in small bits. So far, we have a handful of major and minor cast members confirmed, with the latest being Ainsley Jordan, who will play one of Claire’s minor rivals, Judith Wylie.
There’s no confirmed date yet, but Claire and Jamie predicts either September 9 or September 16, presuming Starz opts to keep the Sunday night. September 9 would be interesting for the Scottish history fans, as this is the anniversary of the Battle of Flodden, between King James IV of Scotland and King Henry VIII of England.
