There’s a promo image of Roger and Jocasta talking in Outlander Season 5. Will the two get along or can we expect tension?

Outlander Season 5 is certainly going to deliver changes to current relationships. It’s also going to deliver new relationships and bonds. One of those potential bonds is between Jocasta Cameron and Roger MacKenzie. After all, they’re from the same bloodline, right? Will the two be kin?

Well, while Roger is a MacKenzie, he’s not exactly going to be able to explain his link to everyone in the past. If he even tried to tell people that he was from the future, he’d be arrested for witchcraft. Yes, even men were tried for witchcraft! So, he doesn’t get the chance to share that he’s a MacKenzie. He may even go by the name Wakefield in the past.

Those who have read “The Fiery Cross” will know Jocasta’s thoughts about Roger. When you consider where he’s come from and everything that’s happened up to this point, it should even be easy to guess how she’ll take to him.

Just a fair warning that there are book spoilers from this point.

The clue to how Jocasta will take to Roger is at the beginning of “The Fiery Cross.” She makes a point of telling him that she’s changed her will. As much as she wants Brianna to gain her plantation after her death, she also says that it’s to go to young Jemmy after that. In no way can Roger benefit from it.

That tells you her thoughts about Roger’s motivations. He’s viewed as a man coming from no wealth and no name. Nobody knows enough about him to trust him. And so, Jocasta is worried that he’s only marrying Brianna for her future money.

Of course, we know differently. Claire and Jamie know differently. That doesn’t mean everyone else does, and I’m sure that’s something we’ll see play out in the beginning of Season 5.
