Sam Heughan talked to the press about Outlander, it’s future, and his career in movies while at the BAFTAs. Is there anything we should be concerned about?

While at the BAFTAs, Sam Heughan talked to the press about his upcoming movie, Bloodshot. Of course, Outlander also came up, as everyone looks ahead at the show’s future. Did anything he say cause concern? Should it?

The Scottish Sun reports that Heughan said that he had fun doing Bloodshot. It’s something different to what he’s used to, and that’s certainly a plus point. This doesn’t mean he’s bored with playing Jamie Fraser. It just means that, as an actor, he likes to take on different roles. It would be like us stuck doing the same mundane thing at work—and those who have been stuck doing the same old thing will understand.

More from Sam Heughan

Heughan did talk about the future of Outlander. Well, sort of. He mentioned that he is waiting to see what happens in the future. Still, there’s nothing bad to take from that, but he can’t talk about something he doesn’t know.

Right now, production is coming to the end of Season 5. The writer’s room has already started on Season 6, although we don’t know when filming will start for that. It’s likely that some talks for Outlander Season 7 have started, but nothing will be finalized until at least Season 5 has started airing.

Sam Heughan has previously said that he’s in the show for the long haul. He knows how important this show is, and he wants to keep telling Claire and Jamie’s story. Caitriona Balfe feels the same way. Just because the two are picking up movie gigs doesn’t mean they’re not focused on Outlander. Just recently, Balfe had to miss the LA premiere of Ford v Ferrari because of the show’s filming schedule.

There’s nothing to worry about. While Heughan is excited for his movie (and so he should be!), he is still there for the Sassenachs.
