On this day in history, we learned the identity of Jamie’s second wife in the Outlander TV series. Here’s a look back at the ratings for Season 3, Episode 8.

Book fans already knew, but show-first fans found out the identity of Jamie’s second wife in Outlander Season 3, Episode 8. The episode aired on Nov. 5, 2017 for the first time, and this is an excellent chance to look back over the ratings.

After a big drop for Episode 7, the show rebounded with “First Wife.” After all, this was the chance for Claire and Jamie to head back to Lallybroch. There was the opportunity to see Jenny again, while also getting a few answers to Mr. Willoughby’s strange comments about Claire being the “first wife.” Why would he say “first?”

While STARZ doesn’t pay too much attention to the Live + Same Day ratings, they’re all that we have to see how well a series is doing. STARZ has the chance to look at its app ratings, but Nielsen doesn’t give us a look at everything since STARZ doesn’t release the details.

The rebound was good, too. According to TV Series Finale, the total audience tipped up 7%. At 1.639 million, it was the second-highest viewed episode of the season. It seems quite fitting considering it was focused on the second wife, as well as Jamie’s story of heading to Silkies’ Island.

As for the demo, it ticked up 3% to 0.34. It was the joint second-highest rated episode of the season with Episode 3 and Episode 5.

Whatever you think of Jenny sending for Laoghaire or Claire’s distance from Jamie—all understandable when you fully consider the situation they were all in—this is one of the stronger episodes of Season 3. It also kickstarted the voyage across the seas to Jamaica, in search for Young Ian.
