Lord John Grey is a British officer, but does that put him immediately on the side of the British in Outlander Season 5? Which side will he be on?
While many worry about how the relationship between Jamie and Murtagh will change in Outlander Season 5, there’s another bond we need to look at. It’s all about Lord John Grey, and the side he will find himself on thanks to his bond with Jamie Fraser.
Lord John is a British officer, proud of his country and determined to follow orders. However, he has a loyalty to the Fraser family. Not only does he have a connection to Jamie, but he has gained a bond with Brianna and with Claire over the years, especially in the fourth season.

So, which side will he find himself on? During an interview with TV Insider, David Berry did tease that it’s not all cut and dry for John. Sure, he’s a British Army officer, but does that mean he’s going to be on the wrong side of this coming war?
Right now, he and Jamie are technically on the same side. Jamie has been given an order by Governor Tryon to create a militia and hunt down Murtagh. As a man of his word and a protector of his family, he’s going to follow the orders. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll be able to go through with killing Murtagh.
The big question is how Lord John Grey will fit into all this. John knows Murtagh and the relationship with Jamie. He knows that it’s not going to be easy for Jamie to follow these orders. Will he put himself on the line to find a way to save Murtagh and Jamie from going head-to-head? John may not agree with Murtagh’s point of view but he does respect Jamie and will do anything for the man.
We’re going to get to see a lot of tension throughout Season 5. The teaser for the season certainly gives off vibes of Season 2, with the growing tensions leading to Culloden. What does this mean for our group of main characters?
