The Society is based on the book “Lord of the Flies.” Instead of putting a group of teens on a deserted island, the teens are in their home town with absolutely no other people. There’s not even a direct way out, as all exits are blocked by dense forest.
The group of teenagers need to figure out how to just live, while they figure out how they’ve got to this alternate world and if there is a way to get back. That’s a lot to put on a group of 16-18-year-olds, right?
Naturally, the members of the society have different views about how to tackle the living situation. Some want an elitist world and others suggest a communist society. It leads to tension and drama between separate groups of people.
One thing that I enjoy about The Society is that the focus of the first season has mostly been about living. The group of teens need to figure out how to survive in this world with nobody to help them. It’s like heading back to the 18th century in some way, especially when it comes to farming and poisonous snakes.
