Trying to find something to watch during Droughtlander isn’t easy. Netflix does make it a little easier, though, with a wide range of TV shows to check out. Ratched is one of the more recent additions to the streaming service.

We’ve already recommended Ratched for Droughtlander viewing. It has an excellent cast, a great story that pulls you in, and a formidable female lead. In fact, all the women in the show are outstanding.

Why is Ratched perfect for Outlander fans?

There are a lot of reasons Sassenachs need to watch Ratched. The first is that you probably read One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest years ago. Nurse Ratched was one of those characters that gave many nightmares, and now it’s time to find out her origin story. What made her so stuck in her ways and dangerous?

Ratched offers a chance to see her become the nurse we all know. She wasn’t always that way. You see, she wasn’t born an evil person. The circumstances made her into one, and the first season of this 1947-set series gives us just a hint of that.

At the same time, it’s set in the past. We don’t get to see much of Claire work as a surgeon in the 1960s, but this is a chance to look at some of that world. The first season takes place in a psychiatric hospital, but it goes into some of the barbaric “treatments” used to “help” patients.

We also can’t overlook the wonderful cast. While some of the storylines are a little over-the-top and far-fetched, there is one that I absolutely adore because of the acting. Sophie Okonedo is amazing as Charlotte, a patient with Multiple Personality Disorder, which is now known as Dissociative Identity Disorder.
