Why Outlander Season 5 filming is likely so quiet right now

News from Outlander Season 5 filming has been extremely quiet recently. Why is that? Here are my thoughts on why this could be the case.

One of the things we all got excited about when Outlander Season 5 started filming was some updates from the cast and crew. Those updates have been few and far between. Why could that be?

There are a few reasons that will connect to the quietness. One of those is that there weren’t always that many updates during the fourth season. STARZ tends to be extremely tight-lipped on spoilers because that’s the way Matt B. Roberts and so many others like it. Even though some of the storylines are direct from the book, the showrunners and EPs like fans to be surprised in the way storylines play out.

Of course, it’s not easy to keep fans away from on-location filming spots. We just have to look at the crowd that gathered when Caitriona Balfe filmed the other weekend in Paisley. Last year, there were many spoilery photos from fans who managed to get to the filming locations.

But that hasn’t been the case as much this year. The cast hasn’t shared many updates on social media and while the Outlander social media pages have been a little more active this time, they’ve been focused mostly on looking back at Season 4 and wishing cast members happy birthday.

So, why are things so quiet? Why aren’t fans out taking photos?

There have been many night shoots and the weather hasn’t been spectacular. Despite a heatwave earlier in the month, there’s been a lot of rain recently. While it isn’t stopping filming, the rain will likely stop some people from venturing out to some of the known locations for filming.

And with there being so many night shoots, it’s harder to get any decent photos. The fan photos aren’t even always that clear. We just have to think back at some of the photos of Duncan Lacroix as Murtagh to see that things weren’t always that sharp.

As for the cast, they’re not going to share as much on social when it comes to night shoots. They’re tired and the first thing they want to do is sleep. Anyone who has worked nights will know how off your body clock can be and you don’t feel like you have time for social media or anything other than eating, sleeping, and working in life.

They may also be sworn to secrecy. If you notice when the cast does share some behind-the-scenes footage, it’s not overly detailed. Recently, we had Cesar Domboy share a clip of him, Sam Heughan, and Kyle Rees on horseback.

Sassenachs in Scotland will have to do more sleuthing for those of us on the other side of the pond for us. There’s still plenty unknown about Outlander Season 5. While that’s great for the series, it’s hard during Droughtlander!
