Outlander was snubbed of all nominations at the 2019 Emmys. There’s still another year. The show could stand a better chance at the 2020 Emmys.

Outlander fans are most definitely not happy about the Emmys 2019 snubs. However, there’s a chance that it just wasn’t the right timing. This time next week, we’ll be talking about the 2020 Emmys, which the show has a better chance of getting recognition in.

There were a number of things working against Outlander this year. One of the biggest things was Game of Thrones. It has to be telling that the season that gained some of the biggest complaints received the most nominations. Some categories saw multiple Game of Thrones actors nominated at the same time.

More from Opinion

In 2020, Game of Thrones won’t be a problem. The whole reason it was nominated so many times is because it as the final season. In previous years, it did gain nominations and wins but the show didn’t gain anywhere near as many. The 2019 nominations were a way to see the show go out with a bang.

Another reason the show has a better chance of nominations in 2020 is the timing of release. If you look at many of the nominations for 2019, the shows mostly aired episodes between March and May 2019. Apart from The Handmaid’s Tale, which was actually nominated for June 2018 episodes of Season 2, most of the episodes and performances would have been at the forefront of the minds of the voters.

Since Game of Thrones was mentioned, it’s worth noting that it took a few years for that show to get the recognition it deserved. Now it’s landed some major nominations, so it could be time for Outlander’s tide to turn.

That should be the case for Outlander next year. There’s no chance that we’ll get the new season at the end of this year. The earliest we’re looking at the season premiering is January 2020 but I think it’s going to be a little later. With the later premiere, it’s closer to the nomination voting and there’s a better chance of nominations.

It’s all going to depend on the storylines and the writing. We don’t know what the next season is going to be like. There’s not been any hint of storylines or scenes just yet. But if they fall into place, there is a chance the show will be nominated for Emmys in 2020.
