Should Outlander develop a Master Raymond miniseries?
Diana Gabaldon has plans for a book about Master Raymond. Is it time for the Outlander TV series to consider a Master Raymond miniseries?
The world of Outlander is much bigger than Claire and Jamie. While the main series is about their love and their family, the entire universe has a number of other players in the game. One of those is Master Raymond.
Diana Gabaldon already has a short story that involves the French time traveler, but she’s also confirmed that there will be a novel based on him. This is a man who doesn’t even come from 18th-century France but is prehistoric. This opens up the world of stories, as he travels forward and backward through time.

With more stories about Master Raymond, is it time for the Outlander TV series to consider a miniseries of its own? Would this be the perfect way to get through Droughtlander?
In a way, yes. I do think that having a miniseries (or even just a shorter, Droughtlander-filling side series) would be something to consider. However, not quite just yet. After all, Gabaldon hasn’t even started working properly on her Master Raymond book, and we’d want the initial story first.
The problem is that it’s not clear when that book will be out. After all, Gabaldon is currently working on Book 9, titled “Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone,” and she has plans for Book 10 in the series. There’s a chance she won’t get to the Master Raymond book for quite some time. So, we could be looking at years for a miniseries if we wait.
Maybe a Master Raymond miniseries just based on the character and the short story would be enough for now. It would help to get through a future Droughtlander and it could be left open with the intention to go back once the book is written.
I do think there’s interest in the French magician for a miniseries. Like Lord John Grey, there’s a backstory we don’t know. There are tales separate from Claire and Jamie that we haven’t heard of yet. A miniseries would be excellent for those who watch Outlander for more than just Claire and Jamie’s tale.
