We may be into Droughtlander but we’re getting the odd glimpse here and there of Outlander Season 5 filming. Jon Gary Steele recently shared a set item on Instagram but can you guess what it will be for?

Outlander Season 5 is in the middle of filming. This means that while we’re in Droughtlander, we’re getting a few glimpses of things to come now and then. One of those glimpses came this weekend when Jon Gary Steele shared a set item.

Of course, this could involve spoilers for those who haven’t read Book 5, titled “The Fiery Cross,” or those who don’t like to know what’s coming in the show. However, we currently have no idea what this set item is actually for because the Outlander set designer has left us with a guessing game.

More from Spoilers

The beautiful ironwork is reminiscent of the print shop ironwork from Outlander Season 3. That doesn’t mean we’re heading back to Scotland in this season — this will eventually happen temporarily but not right away — but it does mean more elements of Scotland are likely to show up in North Carolina.

Elements of Scotland showing up shouldn’t be that surprising. While the people of Britain moved to America for a new life, they didn’t leave everything behind. If you look around certain areas of the United States and Canada now, you’ll see various items that will make you think of Britain.

The big question is what this ironwork is going to be for. There’s an arch design to it, which could suggest something for an archway at the Gathering, but it could be something for a major building or even a statue for the Redcoats. Remember that there were mentions of building work and statues being made, so it wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary to see something.

With the timing of the picture, it suggests that this isn’t going to come up until a few episodes into Outlander Season 5. Filming has completed on at least three episodes now, and that’s possibly the first three episodes to focus on the Gathering and a few other elements from the tail end of Book 4 and the start of Book 5.

Steele isn’t giving any hints about what the iron arch is for and wants us to guess. Can you guess what it is?
