Outlander Season 5: Does recent filming updates help us guess when the season will premiere?

We’re still waiting on some idea of when Outlander Season 5 will premiere on STARZ. Does the recent filming timeline give us an idea?

Outlander Season 5 still doesn’t have a premiere date. That’s not surprising, but we don’t even have a rough guide. Recent filming updates may give us some sort of idea.

During the interview with Parade, Sam Heughan shared that they had filmed two and a half episodes. By now, they’ve possibly come to the end of that third episode. The cast and crew are certainly making some excellent timing, considering filming only started in April.

If it’s taken about two months to film three episodes and there are 12 episodes in total for the season, we could see filming finished within eight months. This is certainly achievable. It took about 10 months to film the 13 episodes for Season 4, and part of the problem there was bad weather in Scotland during the winter.

Post-production takes time after filming, usually a couple of months. So, we could look at December when the filming finishes and then about February for post-production to be completed. This could mean we see Outlander Season 5 premiere around March or April 2020.

This is still just a guestimation. The show doesn’t film in traditional ways, episode by episode. Various scenes are shot together to help with scheduling. Plus, the Outlander Untold episodes will need to be filmed in between blocks. However, it looks like spring next year before we’ll see episodes premiere.
