Outlander Season 5: Set photo shows more aging for Claire and Jamie
There’s certainly going to be some time jumps throughout Outlander Season 5. The latest set photo shows more aging for Claire and Jamie.
Criminal Minds actress Aisha Tyler visited the Outlander set, which meant a set photo with the lead stars. This gives us another glimpse at Outlander Season 5, showing that there will be more time jumps.
Time jumps aren’t all that surprising. Within a few books, we’ll be into the Revolutionary War period, and “The Fiery Cross” leads up to that. With time jumps in the fifth book, there were bound to be jumps within the TV series. It looks like these jumps are going to be fairly early on.
The show doesn’t film in order of episodes but it does tend to film in blocks. We usually get a few of the earlier episodes filmed at the start, and we are getting towards the end of the first block right now. So, the set photo is likely from an earlier episode.
What gives the time jump away? It’s all about the hair. Take a look at the image first and then we’ll get into the breakdown.

Claire’s hair is the major giveaway. In the fourth season, she still had just a streak of grey. This grey had been dyed out of her hair when she went to the past, fearful of Jamie’s reaction to her getting older. However, she’s embracing the grey and there are more strands of it throughout her hair.
During the fourth season, Adawehi noted that Claire would have her full powers once her hair turned fully white. There’s still some time to go for that, but it’s going to happen eventually.
Claire isn’t the only one seeing hair changes during the fifth season. Jamie’s red hair is turning lighter. It’s looking remarkably blonde. Wait, why blonde? Well, redheads tend to turn blonde with age instead of grey. This was noted by fans when Geillis was seen in Outlander Season 3 with blonder hair.
Eventually, we’ll see Jamie’s hair start to turn white. The red in his hair will keep the natural copper tones, which helps to prevent the grey showing through. So, the blonder hair in the set photo makes it clear that we’re starting to see Jamie age more.
