I wouldn’t get too worried about the actors walking away from Outlander any time soon. Sam Heughan has one thing to say about the show: ‘Long may it reign.’

With the growing popularity of the Outlander actors, it’s not surprising that there are worries about the future of the series. Will the actors stick around until the very end or want to cut their time short? Well, if Sam Heughan means everything he says (and we think his word is as good as Jamie’s) then I don’t think we need to worry.

During an interview with Scotland’s STV, Heughan was asked about his time on the series and the future. There’s still plenty of life and he simply stated; “Long may it reign.”

More from Sam Heughan

Just from this line alone, it looks like he would love to see this show through to the end. He’s certainly said it in the past but things change as we get older and have more on our plates. It wouldn’t have been surprising if Heughan (and co-star Caitriona Balfe) decided it was time to step away from the Scottish period drama. However, it looks like there are no plans to do that right now.

This is the show that’s put the two on the map in terms of their acting careers. It’s made them household names around the world. When the two took the roles, they never thought the show would become what it is now. I don’t think anyone really did. Sure, there was the potential but to see it become so big is awesome.

Diana Gabaldon is planning 10 books in the series. Eight are already out and the ninth is currently being written. Book 10 will likely be the one that wraps it all up and finally tells us how Jamie’s ghost (yes, it’s definitely Jamie’s ghost) is outside Claire’s window in the 1940s.

Check out the full interview with Sam Heughan. He doesn’t just chat Outlander but also the chances of him becoming James Bond.
