When it comes to excellent Outlander episodes, Lallybroch is at the top of the list. Here are my five favorite lines from Outlander Season 1, Episode 12.

There’s no denying that Outlander Season 1, Episode 12 is one of the strongest episodes. It gives us more of Jamie’s story at Fort William, more of Jenny’s story when Jamie was taken away, and Claire starts to integrate herself into a family.

Over the episode, there were some excellent lines. Many of them we insights into the family life and the relationships between the characters, adding humor and drama. Here are my five favorite lines from the episode.

Ah, it’s just that when I’m 40, you’ll be 245.

What I love about this is the way Jamie tries to make sense of everything. He continues on from the previous episode, where he doesn’t question if Claire is telling the truth. All Jamie wants is to understand and wrap his head around the situation.

We get a look at his attempt to do the math, while also trying to wrap his head around time travel. Honestly, Jamie, just don’t go down the time travel rabbit hole.

Well, if she’s your wife, I imagine she’s more familiar with your balls than I am.

Jenny Fraser Murray was not one for mincing her words. She said what she thought and said it loud and clear. One thing I adore is that we got a true introduction to her character. There was no pretending that she wanted to meet Jamie’s wife.

Sure, she was happy Jamie was back in a way, but she was also angry. This was clear as she stood up to her brother. Jenny and Jamie clearly had a true sibling relationship and this line brought that out.

I need you to trust me here. This is my family, my land My time. I’m Laird. And you are my Lady. We should both conduct ourselves as such.

I know this isn’t a line that stands out too much, but it’s an important one. At first, it can look like Jamie is trying to stop Claire from being herself. It’s like he’s stepping into the role of an 18th-century laird and trying to make her meek and obedient. That’s not what he’s doing.

Jamie finds a compromise with her. All he wants is for her to play a part in public. In private – and once she’s got to know Jenny and Ian better – she can stand up to Jamie and embarrass him all she wants.

Our tenants are like family. Not a man, woman or child would think about betraying Jamie to the Redcoats. At any price.

Jenny has an important line here. The tenants at Lallybroch are more than just people paying rent. They are family to the Frasers. In fact, many of them possibly are related in some way.

The delivery of this line is important, too. Jenny is clearly disgusted that Claire would even suggest that they couldn’t trust the tenants. However, she’s also angry at Claire and Jamie just turning up. Jenny wants to make sure Jamie is caught up to speed on everything and nobody is giving her the chance to do that.

Their hearts are as big and soft as their heads are thick and strong.

Ian Murray takes the last line. He finally gets a chance to connect with Claire as the two outsiders in the Fraser family. This is a chance to offer his insights into the Fraser family. After all, he’s been around them for decades.

We get a chance to hear more about a Fraser trait – the warm hearts they have. That’s certainly something we’d seen with Jamie up to this point. We’d also seen the stubborn, hard head. Ian became a fan-favorite within minutes and I think this line certainly led to it.
