Outlander Season 1, Episode 8 gave us the cliffhanger that wouldn’t get resolved for months. Here are my favorite lines from Both Sides Now.

Claire had a choice to make in Outlander Season 1, Episode 8. While enjoying her time with Jamie, she got close enough to the stones to head back to her own time. But would she? And what would happen when she did?

We all know what happened in “Both Sides Now.” This episode gave us the cliffhanger we’d need to wait months to resolve, as the first season was split in two halves. Here are my five favorite lines from the episode.

My wife is not with another man.

Frank was so sure that Claire had never left him. One thing that I really enjoyed about this episode was seeing Frank in 1945. We got a chance to see what he was doing and how much he knew or believed.

Something I wondered at first was whether Frank believed that Claire hadn’t run off. Sure, we knew at this point that she was with another man, but she didn’t intentionally run off and throughout this episode, Frank seemed so sure.

A lot of people give Frank flack for heading back to Oxford after this episode, but he was a man who needed to head back to his job. It wasn’t like he could spend years searching for Claire. That just wasn’t realistic. But I don’t think he ever gave up hope of her returning at this point.

Is it usual, what it is between us when I touch you, when you lie with me? Is it always so between a man and a woman? It’s often something like this.

After looking at what Frank was up to, we get to see how Claire and Jamie are connecting after their forced marriage. Jamie is so deeply in love with Claire. We could see it during the previous episode, but it’s in this episode that it’s clear.

And it’s not just Jamie. Claire is deeply in love. Jamie is just the romantic and the one to say it first. He needs to know if everything he feels is normal or if they’re, what I believe they are, soul mates.

Every man and woman in the world needs to know how to defend themselves, Sassenach, especially those married to a Fraser.

This line has always stood out. I love that Claire gets the trust of the men. Over the last few episodes, she’d gone from accused spy to now one of them. Finally, she is taught how to defend herself.

When it comes to all the lines, though, it’s this one that makes me chuckle. It’s foreshadowing that life as a Fraser isn’t going to be easy in Outlander.

I believe that she traveled to some other time. Where or, when would that be? I don’t know. Every traveler is different. They must make their own journey on their own path, but the songs do say that the travelers often return.

Mrs. Graham takes a spot on the list. She knows exactly what has happened to Claire. However, it’s not that she knows that stands out. This line is one of my favorites because it goes into a little more about other travelers. This is a chance to discuss all the different songs that are out there and gives another hint that Geillis is a traveler.

More importantly, it shares how Geillis could travel from a point in the future to an earlier point in the past compared to Claire. We just don’t realize at this point that it’s foreshadowing. Well, those who didn’t read the books hadn’t realized!

I’ll thank ye to take your hands off my wife.

It’s all about Jamie at the very end of the episode with the last best line. He crouches in the window after rescuing her. We’re left with that look of this god-like man making it extremely clear that he isn’t messing around.

Later, we find out that his pistol wasn’t loaded. However, you would never have been able to tell by the look on his face. He was determined to get Claire back from Black Jack Randall, especially before he raped her.
