Lord John Grey mini-series discussed: Should it be picked up?
The Outlander EPs have discussed a Lord John Grey mini-series. Is this something that should happen?
During the Entertainment Weekly Facebook Live, the Outlander EPs shared that they had discussed a Lord John Grey mini-series. This isn’t all that surprising considering the talk among the fans. However, the question is whether now is the right time to pick up the series.
There are certainly plenty of reasons to bring the Lord John Grey mini-series soon. It would be a good way to get through Droughtlander (if filmed now, the Droughtlander between Seasons 5 and 6) and many fans would like to see a mini-series. With already plenty of core material to create the series, there’s no reason not to bring it, right?

Well, the big reason against a mini-series is the focus on Outlander. We wouldn’t want the EPs to be pulled away from the main series, especially as the books get bigger and stories get larger. Of course, there’s the option of working on the spin-off during the filming off-season and other EPs manage to work on multiple shows at once, so this isn’t the only reason not to do it.
Another reason to avoid would be the current complaints. There are some fans upset that Claire and Jamie are no longer the only focus in Outlander. A Lord John Grey spin-off wouldn’t feature them at all or would possibly only feature Jamie in particular spots. There may be the worry that there won’t be enough interest in a spin-off that doesn’t feature the two.
Personally, I would love to see a Lord John Grey mini-series. There’s plenty to break down in his life, stories to tell that would help to further his character development. Seeing a mini-series with him and Willie would be excellent for the development of the two characters for the future of the series. But I want the creators to put their focus on the main world for now.
